Where in Australia Can a Person Under 21 Rent a Car?

Posted by Amy Nutt on January 30, 2009
by Amy Nutt

All over the world, there are car rental companies that require an individual to be 21 years of age or older to rent a car. There are even companies that require you to be 25 years of age or older. It simply depends on the company. But what if you are under 21 and you must travel, but you dont have your own car to do it? There are plenty of business situations, emergency situations, and personal situations in which an individual under 21 must rent a car.

If youre wondering what car rental companies will allow you to rent if you are under 21, the following can help you out:

- Gold Coast Car Hire will rent to individuals under 21. If you dont have full coverage insurance already, you can acquire insurance through them in case an accident does occur.

- Australian Rent a Car, which was just acquired by Red Spot, will also rent to individuals under 21.

- Aussie Camper Vans will allow someone under the age of 21 to rent campervans if youre interested in going on a camping trip.

These are just a few of them, but they are easily found on the Internet so that you can find information about them. And there are many others that list whether or not they will rent to people 21 years of age or younger.

If someone tells you that you cannot rent a car from any car rental in Brisbane Australia because you are under 21, that is indeed false. There are many question and answer forums on the Internet regarding this issue, but there are so many telling young people that they need to have someone 21 or over rent the car on their behalf.

The best way to find out if a car rental company will rent to you if youre under the age of 21 is if you go to their website and see for yourself. They will most likely specify whether or not they will rent to an under 21 individual or not. This can also help you to narrow down your prospects when finding the best car rental rate.

But why do car companies not want to rent to people under 21?

Much of this has to do with the fact that young people are a higher risk behind the wheel. They do not have as much experience and they are more likely to engage in risky behavior. If by some chance you find that you dont have a car rental company in your area that will allow you to rent from them, then you will have to ask someone 21 or over to rent on your behalf. If you are traveling for business, the wise thing to do is talk to your employer about renting the car under their name. When it is for business use, this is, perhaps, the ideal thing to do because the company is probably paying for it anyway.

So there are ways to get around it if you are in an area that does not have car rental companies that will rent to you if youre under 21. Just make sure you do your research and not listen to those who say, ‘Not a single car rental company or truck rental Sydney Australia company will rent to you because youre under 21.’ Although this fact makes finding a car rental company a little more difficult, it is not at all impossible. So yes, at 18, 19, 20 years old, you can rent a car to take care of your emergency, personal, or business situation whenever you need to.

Then And Now: Chevy Monte Carlo

The Chevy Monte Carlo was Chevrolets answer to customers who wanted a sporty, stylish and comfortable car. Chevy Monte Carlo was introduced as an upscale rear-drive V8 coupe in competition to Ford Thunderbird. Evolving over decades and winning NASCAR race events, the Chevy Monte Carlo models have been a treat to customers.

These models evolved a great deal over the decades since the 1970s through 2007 according to customer tastes. With the Chevy Monte Carlo models traversing six generations, Chevrolets offer to customers has been optimal fuel efficiency and luxury.

All these models are two-door luxury coupes, sedans and Sports models. The Chevy Monte Carlo reigned as a popular rear-drive sports coupe till 1988 until its return in 1995. Chevy Monte Carlo made a successful come back in 1995. All models Chevy Monte Carlo follow the style of the contemporary mid-sized sedans along with Sports editions.

In 1969, designers Elliot M. Estes and Dave Holls of Chevrolet initially designed the Monte Carlo based on the Cadillac Eldorado. They made changes by adding new front-end sheet metal, rear fenders, etc. In the 1980s the Chevy Monte Carlo had a restyled body with a smoother profile based on GMs mid-size formal coupes. Chevrolets Super Sport model in introduced in 1984 was very popular with racing teams after having won several races, gaining public acclaim as well.

In 1995, it was replaced by a Lumina and a coupe changing over to a V6 engine with a carryover front-wheel-drive platform, changing from the rear-drive sport coupe in 1988. The new coupe had a W-body chassis and became the first front-wheel-drive Monte Carlo model.

The current coupe debuted in 2000. They follow the style of the Impala sedan. These vehicles also follow styles from designs of the old Monte Carlo models and GM Motorsports. Some distinct features are stylized wheel flares and rear bumpers with vertically oriented tail lamps. Moreover, the Chevy Monte Carlo models newly sported the Knight badge with a full gage cluster.

The Chevy Monte Carlo has several pace car editions including trim level editions of LS, LT, and SS. The SS uses a 3.4 L OHV V6 engine. The 2006 Monte Carlo (and Impala sedan) has a 3.5 L V6 base engine with 210 horsepower. There were few changes to the interior design.

However, growing and evolving through generations, the Chevy Monte Carlos future remains a question after its production was ceased at the Oshawa Car Assembly Plant #1 in June 2007. General Motors made a formal announcement of stopping production and has not confirmed any future plans of commencing production. There are several factors that are likely to influence Chevy Monte Carlos revival, some of them being the sales of the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro, GMs economic position in the current financial crisis of 2008, and the proposed changes to the CAF standard.

Sports Car Preventative Maintenance

Posted by Roman Robinson on January 29, 2009

After spending the money on a new sports car, it’s important to keep up with the preventative maintenance that can save you a lot of time, money and hassle in the future. Even newer models, with stronger and better engines, can malfunction and a smart driver should always take every necessary precaution to ensure that he or she gets safely from one place to another. Based on a sports car from BMW, one of the worlds leading car manufacturers, we’ve compiled a list of tips that can help keep your sports car looking new and running as great as the day you bought it.

1) Check the brakes, tires, oil and steering system to make sure that everything is in order before taking your sports car for a drive. If your car begins making unusual noises or moving in an unusual way, immediately take it to a mechanic to have it checked out. Better safe than sorry.

2) The ignition system is incredibly important to a car but is often overlooked. To prevent complications, have your mechanic check the entire system, especially the spark plugs, which act as a fairly good indicator of how the engine of your car is running. The system should be checked every 30,000 miles and make sure the spark plugs are replaced at least every 100,000 miles.

3) Distributor caps and rotors are made of plastic, which deteriorates easily over time, so it’s important to have them checked out regularly. Try doing this every time you get your oil changed, that way it’s easy to remember.

4) There are several filters in your car, both for oil and for fuel, that should be checked every 3,000 miles. Because they act as a guard against rust and other harmful objects, a bad or overused filter could disrupt the performance of your car.

5) You should keep track of your car’s mileage by calculating the amount of fuel purchased and the miles driven as shown on the odometer before and after fueling. Many newer model sports cars also have an automatic calculator that displays your cars mileage for you. If there is a sudden change in the number of miles your car can travel per gallon of gas, take your car to a mechanic immediately.

6) If, at any time, one of your cars sensor lights comes on, it’s important to pull over immediately, turn the car off and call for assistance. Though the problem could be small, there is a possibility that it might not be and you may need to have the vehicle towed to a mechanic.

Florida Teen Car Insurance — Safety And Lower Rates

Posted by Chimezirim Gabriel-Odimba on January 29, 2009

Teen drivers are high risks to any Florida auto insurance carrier. Their crash rate is so high that many parents will prefer they don’t drive until they get older. For parents who really do have such strong control over their children, it may work.

Peer pressure makes it unacceptable for them to be the only kids in the block who can’t drive yet. Is there a way you can get more affordable rates for this high risk group and also ensure they stay safe? Following are suggestions that will help you whether you’re in Florida or not…

Teenagers typically ask for adult privileges but opt for kindergarten responsibilities. Howbeit, if you want to help your teenager really grow up, let them know that with every privilege come some responsibilities.

If it makes sense in your circumstance, let them pay for their car insurance or at least bear a part of their auto insurance premium. You’ll discover that making them to take steps that will make them lower their rates will be easier after you do this.

Give your teen driver this set of rules and they will be the safer if they abide by it…

1) Ensure they never drive with only fellow teens as passengers.

2) Let there be an agreement between you and your teenager that they won’t drive in the night. If this isn’t feasible in your teen’s circumstance, teach them what to do and how to conduct themselves in that situation.

Most accidents happen between 9.00pm and 2.00am.

3) Let them know the dangers of driving after drinking and have them promise never to drive after drinking. Err on the side of safety and insist that they do not drive after as little as a sip of alcohol.

4) Let it be ingrained in your teenager that they are not on a race track even when they are on the highway.

They should obey speed limits and traffic laws.

5) You must always be told where they intend to drive to. It may be hard sometimes but there are place where your teen is better off using public transport.

These all presume that you already have great communication with your teenager. Nevertheless you can lower your teen’s rates by getting and comparing quotes.

Comparing Smartbars And Bullbars, Facing The Facts

Posted by Damian Papworth on January 28, 2009
by Damian Papworth

I love the outdoors. The more remote the better. I just love packing my jeep with all the gear (including my wife and child :)) and heading offroad to somewhere unreachable by road or foot.

On a recent trip, I hit a kangaroo at a low speed. Thankfully the kangaroo bounded off with little more than a fright and there was basically no damage to the vehicle. The incident got me thinking about frontal protection though. If I were going any faster, the damage to the jeep could have been significant, leaving us stranded and putting my family in harms way.

During this chat they brought up the topic of smartbars. Before the conversation, I didn’t even know they existed. So I got onto Google to do some research on the products and found a lot of opinion (most of it based on aesthetics and perception rather than utility and fact) but pretty much no factual information. So me and my mates at All Vehicle Accessories dug a little deeper, and this is what we found.

Frontal protection products are designed to do 3 things in a collision. They are designed to 1. Protect the passengers in the vehicle. 2. Protect the vehicle in a collision. 3. Pretect the object being struck in a collision. So that was my first point of reference. Which product did a better job in a collision, the bullbar or the smartbar?

Its pretty funny when you look around for information on the relative safety performance of bullbars and smartbars. People who love bullbars keep pointing out that at 150kms/h a collision will be fatal. So to be clear, we are not looking at the 150kms/h collission. Rather we are comparing performance of these products at speeds up to and including fatal impact, but not exceeding it. That means at speeds which are less than and equal to the point where a collision becomes fatal to the vehicle, passengers or pedestrian.

The difference between the performance of bullbars and smartbars comes about because bullbars are rigid (Ie they have no give in them) while smartbars are not. (Ie. they are made from polyethylene with a hollow internal structure so they have some give) Despite all the opinion to the contrary, at speeds leading up to fatal impact, smartbars work better than bullbars in protecting you, the car and the person you hit. The manner in which they absorb impact minimises the force of the collision and thereby reduces injury and damage. The cushioning effect of this absorbtion actually acts to decelerate the colliding forces at the point of impact. This has been proven by independent child head-form impact tests. You just have to do a little research to find the studies.

To put this point in perspective though, into words you can feel, smartbars are made out of similar materials that they make those big wheelie bins from. Imagine you fell over in the street and smacked your head into a big iron postal box. It would hurt right? Now compare the same fall if your head hit the middle of one of those big wheelie bins. The bin would cushion the impact somewhat and the damage to your forehead would not nearly be so bad. (Or painful for that matter) Thats the way the smartbars work.

If you enjoy your vehicle, performance will always be a topic on your mind. The cost of fuel, tyre wear, suspension wear, handling in extreme weather. They are all issues for regular drivers. One thing that no-one questions, is that smartbars are significantly lighter than bullbars. Do you know what this means? Better fuel efficiency, longer tyre and suspension wear, easier and safer handling. Smartbars by their lighter composition allow your vehicle to perform better. Simple.

Topic 3. Maintenance - Metal rusts. Metal looses its lustre. Metal reflects. A rusting bullbar requires significant work to clean up. A dull bullbar requires significant polishing to make it shine again. And a reflecting bullbar will effect your vision everytime another set of headlights hit it. This is one of the defining features of the smartbar. Maintenance requires a bucket of soapy water, a sponge and a quick wipe down. Thats it. The plastic parts do not rust, they do not require buffing or polishing and they will never reflect light from another source.

These are the facts I found when researching frontal protection products for my Jeep. The protection of my family was my #1 consideration, so getting this right was important to me. If you are considering frontal protection products I encourage you to do your own research, try to seperate fact from the immense amount of image based opinion out there, and pick the product that best suits your purpose.

Georgia Auto Insurance — Is It That Necessary?

Posted by Chimezirim Odimba on January 28, 2009
by Chimezirim Odimba

A minimum insurance cover is required if you plan to use a vehicle in most places. However, is that all why a car insurance coverage is important — To fulfill the requirements of the authorities?

Most folks ask for their Georgia car insurance coverage with that mind set. They make sure that they get an auto policy that meets their state’s minimum requirements.

But the unexpected sometimes happens (No one really leaves home saying: “Today, I hope to have a dangerous crash.”). Then they would now know that they would have been better off with another policy albeit very expensive. The worst that could occurcould be the loss of their car or valuables related to them directly. This way they will only have to make do without those things. It could be devastating if there is a law that they compensate injured or affected persons in an accident. This could be as huge as $5 million. So unless they’re really rich, liquidation is bound to happen.

Painful as it seems, it could occur to anybody who does not protect him/herself. So before you start explaining the wisdom behind getting the barest minimum (Even questioning why you must be compelled to take car insurance at all), think deeply.

Auto insurance is something you do for yourself and not the government. You will certainly have done yourself much good with the right auto insurance policy should you ever have to make a claim.

A lot of folks would have loved adequate coverage if not for the high rate usually associated with it. They therefore go for cheaper policies and hope for the best. However, certain insurance experts have built sites that endeavor to help you get better coverage at lower costs. You can take advantage of these quotes sites for massive savings.

Ferrari Must Ditch Kimi for Alonso in 2009

Posted by Aazdak Alisimo on January 28, 2009
by Dirk Gibson

There are many lessons to be learned from this season in Formula One. The first is that Fernando Alonso is still a master. The second is Ferrari needs a dominant driver given the fall of Kimi.

Mention Formula One and the same criticisms are spewed out. There is no real fire. Drivers do not try to pass one another enough. The personalities are to boring. There is no real passion with the teams.

I propose that the only way to add life to F1 is to get a good, vicious rivalry going. Yes, McLaren and Ferrari have a go every so often, but we need individuals involved to really get the blood up and boiling.

What would really make Formula One boil is a tremendous driver rivalry. We saw it last year. Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton went at it tooth and nail to say the least. The fact they were both driving for McLaren made things even better, if a bit odd.

Well, the rivalry this year has lost a bit of the bite. Why? Until recently, the Renault of Alonso was a mid pack car at best. Ah, but it is improving and Alonso has perked up. He is looking feisty once again and Hamilton is in his sights.

For my measure, the Ferrari is a bit better than the McLaren, but the McLaren is a bit more reliable. As we have all seen, the McLaren is far superior in the wet. On top of this, the Ferrari team has made some horrific gaffs.

Take the current Ferrari team and add Alonso to it for 2009. He is a dominant personality, much like Shumi was before. It is hard to imagine the team having the same gaffs as this year. Alonso is also a superior wet driver, which makes up a shortfall.

Who would Alonso replace? The obvious answer is Raikkonen. I love Kimi, but he is done. He may have a contract for next year, but Ferrari would be crazy not to let him go. Do not be surprised if something does not come together in the offseason.

When it comes to Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, you simply cannot sit on the fence. You love one of them and think the other is a no good punk. Whatever your choice, a rivalry built around these two drivers would be epic.

Just imagine it. Qualifying. Racing. Each and every week, McLaren and Ferrari going at it. Alonso passing and cutting off Hamilton. Hamilton passing and cutting off Alonso. The rivalry would make for must watch viewing all season long.

If Alonso ends up at Ferrari, the number of plots and subplots would be staggering. One has to wonder if Bernie will start moving behind the scenes. Can you imagine the interest in the 2009 season if such a rivalry came to be?

The hobby of model trains and railroading has been round for some years. In actuality, it’s becoming one of the leading hobbies inside the hobby industry. Collection of model trains is a big event in United Kingdom and the United States. It stands to reason, with interest like this, displays and model train shows are sure to surface. There is huge satisfaction taken by these collectors in showing off their collection and extraordinary layouts.

Not every one wants to get involved in that field of the model train hobby. Some like to simply purchase their favorite pieces and keep them on the show case. They are not into the fixing up and running of them.

Even those people that are not into model train collection are suprised with various of the setups seen at this shows. They find it surprising how genuine of a replication they truly are. The only difference ‘tween the genuine thing and the display is the size.

Needless to say, the model train industry is very active in a variety of ways. There are massive amounts of accessories that could now be bought to add to the train sets. Then there’s a wide choice of train tools, small enough to do those train repairs when required. Of course, there’s a replication of every other model of train imaginable. Every of these things and so much more is available at the model train shows. Some other bonus of going to one of these is getting to see a group of great people with the exact interests as you.

Theres something for the beginner right up to the master collector, to be found here. Often at the shows, you will find a real mixed crew of people. Some will have zero admiration for the work that went into the lay out and design. And then there will be others that will praise your work honouring it for what it is. A work of true art.
