On a white sheet of paper oil leaks appear black while power steering and automatic transmission fluid are red. Anti-freeze can either be brown or green while the windshield washer fluid appears blue. Leaking oil that is very oily can be established by feeling it. If it is very oily then it is a lubricant. Apart from messing the car owners driveway engine oil leaks can cause engine damage if not checked. Frequent oil leaks are a sign of developing problems requiring professional mechanics to be fixed.
